Par is the time your score is measured against at that size. The rest is measured from the picture itself: how many pieces have a near-twin by colour once it is cut.

What the picture shows

The branches of a real Christmas tree fill the whole frame, strung with warm white fairy lights. Glass baubles hang all over it: a green one painted with gold trees near the top, a big red one with gold snowflakes in the middle, a blue one painted with a snowy village on the right, and gold, white and deep blue ones round the edges. Between them hang a wooden nutcracker and a felt angel on the left, a rocking horse right of centre, a red felt star at the top right and a felt stocking at the top left. A robin perches near the top. Lower down are a red drum, a frosted pine cone, a carved wooden tree, a Santa and a straw star.

Solving Tree Ornaments

The ornaments give the tree about 7 pieces in 10 with a near-twin at 50 pieces. That rises to about 8 in 10 at 100, as more pieces show only needles and lights, and then hardly moves up to 1000. Needles cross every piece, so none is ever plain.

Start with the big red bauble in the middle, then the other glass baubles by colour and pattern. Place the nutcracker, the angel, the rocking horse, the felt star and the stocking. Add the robin, the drum, the pine cone, the Santa and the straw star. The bare branches are last, sorted by which ornament they sit beside.

Tree Ornaments has the fewest look-alikes of the sixteen Christmas jigsaw puzzles at 1000 pieces, about 8 in 10. Christmas Cookies is the only other Christmas board with no plain pieces at any size. At 100 pieces it is one of the harder ones instead, behind only Cardinal in the Holly and Winter Cabin.
