Christmas Dinner Jigsaw Puzzle

Christmas Dinner at every size

Par is the time your score is measured against at that size. The rest is measured from the picture itself: how many pieces have a near-twin by colour once it is cut.

What the picture shows

A family Christmas dinner table with the turkey already carved. Slices of roast turkey overlap on an oval platter in the middle, ringed with holly and cranberries. Round it stand roast potatoes, stuffing, green beans, cranberry sauce, Brussels sprouts, carrots and parsnips, a gravy boat and a bowl of red cabbage at the bottom right. A centrepiece of pine, red berries and pine cones runs up the middle between tealights and two tall white candles. Patterned plates sit on wicker mats over a tartan runner, with wine glasses, crackers and paper crowns in red, gold and green. A fire burns in the top-left corner and a lit tree fills the top right.

Solving Christmas Dinner

Each dish on this table has its own colour, so about 6 pieces in 10 have a near-twin at 50 and 100 pieces. The tartan runner, the wicker mats and the patterned plates repeat as the cut gets finer. Even so, at 500 pieces the dinner ties with Tree Ornaments for the fewest look-alikes of any Christmas board, about 8 in 10, and at 1000 fewer than 1 piece in 10 is plain.

Start with the carved turkey and its platter. Then the dishes round it, the gravy boat and the red cabbage. Place the two tall candles and the tealights. Add the paper crowns and the crackers. Set the plates and glasses by their patterns, then the fire and the tree in the top corners. The tartan runner and the bare table are last.

Christmas Dinner is one of the easiest Christmas jigsaw puzzles from 100 pieces up: second at 100, the easiest of the sixteen at 200, level with Tree Ornaments at 500 and third at 1000. At 50 pieces it sits in the middle of the set.
