Winter Cabin Jigsaw Puzzle

The green door, its wreath and the lit windows are the only colours that are not red, white or dark green, so build them first. The white window frames and corner posts then line up the red walls.

What the picture shows

Solving Winter Cabin

Snow, red boards and dark spruces each fill large areas, so even at 50 pieces about 8 pieces in 10 of the cabin have a near-twin and about 1 in 8 is plain. At 100 pieces it is about 9 in 10. By 1000 pieces nearly every piece has a near-twin and about 1 in 4 is plain, mostly the snow in front and the white sky.

Start with the green door and its wreath, then the lit windows. Place the red snowmobile, the woodpile and the sled with its sheepskin. Build the red walls by their board lines and white corner posts. Then the snowy roof and the chimney. The spruces come next, and the open snow and the white sky are last, sorted by footprints and shadows.

Winter Cabin is the hardest Christmas board at every size: at 100 pieces about 9 pieces in 10 have a near-twin, against 6 on Toy Shop Window. It also has the most plain pieces of the sixteen at every size.
