What the picture shows

Four reindeer eat hay from a wooden trough in a snowy farmyard. On the left stands a big brown reindeer with wide antlers and a cream neck. Next to it is a pale grey and white one, then a grey one with a dark face and dark antlers. A white reindeer with smaller antlers leans in from the right edge. Behind them is a red wooden barn with a green double door, a small white window and a milk churn. A snowy rail fence runs across the left, with a wooden sled under a striped blanket. At the top right a farmer in a blue jacket carries a black bucket into the barn. Trampled snow strewn with hay covers the bottom.

Solving Reindeer Farm

Each big piece shows a face, an antler or the green door, so at 50 pieces about 6 pieces in 10 have a near-twin. The farmyard rises to about 7 in 10 at 100, because grey-brown fur, weathered wood and hay share one muted range. By 500 pieces nearly every piece has a near-twin, though few are plain: about 1 in 16 at 1000.

Start with the green barn door, then the farmer in the blue jacket. Place the four reindeer by their antlers and faces: brown on the left, the two greys in the middle, white on the right. Build the trough next, then the sled, the fence and the spruces. The hay and snow are last.

Reindeer Farm sits in the middle of the Christmas set at 50 and 100 pieces and moves into its harder half from 200 up. At 1000 pieces it shares third hardest place with Snowy Cottage and Christmas Tree Farm.
