What the picture shows

Solving Town Ice Rink

The hut, the benches, the tree and the skaters give the rink about 5 pieces in 10 with a near-twin at 50 pieces, and none plain. The crowd of small, blurred skaters across the middle is the slow part as the cut gets finer. By 1000 pieces about 9 in 10 have a near-twin and about 1 in 9 is plain.

Build the Christmas tree first, from its star down to the ice. Place the skate-hire hut and its rows of skates, then the hot-drinks stall on the right. Lay the lit garland barrier next. Add the people lacing boots on the benches. Then the buildings and the dusk sky. The skaters on the ice come next, nearest first, and the open ice is last.

Town Ice Rink sits on the easier side of the Christmas set up to 200 pieces: fourth easiest at 50, level with Christmas Cookies at 100, and level with Cookies and Toy Shop Window at 200. At 500 pieces it falls back to the middle of the set.
