Puppy in Bloom Jigsaw Puzzle

Puppy in Bloom at every size

Par is the time your score is measured against at that size. The rest is measured from the picture itself: how many pieces have a near-twin by colour once it is cut.

What the picture shows

A golden retriever puppy lies on a lawn in the middle of the frame, head up and mouth open, with dark eyes, a black nose and soft ears hanging down. Its front paws stretch toward the bottom right and its tail sweeps out to the left, a little blurred. A flower border fills the top right: pink, magenta and white cosmos on tall stems, orange and yellow marigolds lower down, and purple lavender along the right edge, edged with grey stones. A green garden hose curls across the lawn on the left, with its nozzle and a thick coil in the bottom-left corner, and a red ball sits in the grass at the bottom right. In the top left are a brick house, a patio table, flower pots and trees under a white sky.

Solving Puppy in Bloom

Fur, flowers, hose and lawn are all different colours, so at 50 and 100 pieces only about 4 pieces in 10 have a near-twin. At 1000 pieces that rises to about 9 in 10, mostly in the lawn and the pale fur of the back. Plain pieces stay rare at every size.

Start with the face: nose, eyes, open mouth, then the two ears. Add the front paws and the red ball at the bottom right. Build the flower border next, colour by colour, then the house and patio in the top left. Follow the hose round the left side. The puppy's back and tail come after that, and the plain lawn along the bottom last.

Puppy in Bloom has the fewest look-alikes of the six animal pictures at every size. At 100 pieces about 4 pieces in 10 have a near-twin here, against 8 on both Fox in the Snow and Lion Pride.
