Carnival Night Jigsaw Puzzle

Carnival Night at every size

Par is the time your score is measured against at that size. The rest is measured from the picture itself: how many pieces have a near-twin by colour once it is cut.

What the picture shows

A travelling funfair in a town park at dusk. A waltzer with a canopy of red and blue lights fills the top left, and people queue on its metal steps: a man in a black puffer jacket, a girl in a purple flowered coat and a woman in a green parka. A Ferris wheel lit white, yellow and red stands right of centre against a blue evening sky and bare trees. A burger van on the right has a lit counter and sauce bottles, with customers in front, and more stalls glow in the distance. The ground is mud and straw with bright puddles, crossed by black and yellow cable covers.

Solving Carnival Night

At 50 pieces no piece is plain, and the lights of the wheel, the waltzer and the van keep most pieces apart: about 3 pieces in 10 have a near-twin at 50. The mud and straw across the bottom third are the slow part at large sizes, one brown texture broken only by puddles. From 500 pieces up the dark coats in the queue look alike too.

Start with the Ferris wheel: find the hub and build out along the spokes to the rim. Then the waltzer canopy and its lights, and the burger van on the right. Lay the cable covers across the ground, then the queue on the waltzer steps and the families walking in the middle. Add the distant stalls, the bare trees and the sky. The mud and straw are last, placed by their puddles.

Carnival Night is the second easiest holiday picture at 100 and 200 pieces, behind Balloon Fiesta. At 500 the two are level, and at 1000 the funfair is the easiest of the five, at about 7 pieces in 10. At 50 pieces Harbour Fireworks sorts better as well.
