Lantern Festival Jigsaw Puzzle

The hanging lanterns carry no markings, so read their size: the biggest hang along the top edge and they shrink row by row toward the bridge. The square lanterns floating on the water are the only lit boxes below the boats.

What the picture shows

Solving Lantern Festival

No piece is plain up to 100 pieces: lanterns, windows and ripples fill the frame. Colour is the difficulty instead. Red and gold cover the board, so about 7 pieces in 10 have a near-twin at 50 pieces and 8 in 10 at 100. The hanging lanterns carry no writing, so only their size and height tell them apart. At 1000 pieces about 9 in 10 have a near-twin and about 1 in 10 is plain.

Start with the stone bridge and the crowd along its top. Place the boat below it, then the floating lanterns. Build the candlelit balustrade and the crowd on the left, then the balconies on the right. Fill the canal by its reflections. The hanging lanterns are last, sorted by size, biggest along the top edge.

Lantern Festival is the hardest holiday picture up to 500 pieces, and at 1000 Halloween Night passes it by a point. It has no plain pieces up to 100 pieces and the fewest in the set from 200 up, so the challenge is all colour.
