Sea Turtle Jigsaw Puzzle

The cream-outlined scales on the turtle's head and flipper are a pattern nothing else on the reef shares. Build the turtle from them, then the table corals.

What the picture shows

A green turtle rests on a crowded reef, facing right, its head right of centre. Its brown shell is furred with green algae and dotted with white barnacles, and a front flipper of dark scales outlined in cream sweeps back to the left. Flat table corals spread behind it and fade into blue water. Pale soft corals stand on the left and at the bottom centre, and a reddish barrel sponge sits at the lower left. A yellow and blue angelfish and a striped Moorish idol swim by the turtle's face, and the rock between the corals is crusted red, pink and purple. Blue water fills the top quarter.

Solving Sea Turtle

At 50 pieces about 4 pieces in 10 have a near-twin: the shell, the flipper, the sponge and the table corals each fill whole pieces. At 100 the share rises to about half, and the water at the top goes plain, about 1 piece in 7. By 1000 pieces the crusted rock repeats across the bottom half, about 9 in 10 have a near-twin and about 1 in 5 is plain.

Start with the turtle's head, then the shell and its barnacles and the scaled flipper. Place the two fish by its face and the barrel sponge at the lower left. Build the table corals and the pale soft corals next, then fill the crusted rock between them by colour. The far reef and the blue water go in last.

Sea Turtle has the most look-alikes of the five ocean pictures at 50 pieces, and again from 500 pieces up, at about 9 pieces in 10 with a near-twin by 1000. The blue water above the reef is why: from 100 to 500 pieces it has more plain pieces than any other ocean board.
